HELP US MAKE THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE.
Some of Baltimore's most important freedom stories are disappearing from view.
Many places connected to African American history:
no longer exist
remain unmarked
are inaccessible to the public
are disappearing from collective memory
Taste of Freedom reconnects people to these places.
Through place-based storytelling, digital preservation and immersive experiences, we document hidden histories and transform overlooked places into living classrooms for residents, students, educators and visitors.
We are not simply telling stories.
We are preserving access to place.
History changes when you can stand where it happened.
Taste of Freedom brings people into the streets, neighborhoods, waterfronts and historic places where the struggle for freedom unfolded.
Participants don't simply hear the stories. They stand in the places, see the evidence and discover what has been hiding in plain sight.
Through guided walking experiences, harbor cruises, regional heritage excursions and immersive digital experiences, we turn preserved history into something people can experience for themselves.
Because preserving history matters. Making sure people can experience it matters too.
PRESERVING THE PLACES. CONNECTING THE STORIES.
Baltimore's freedom history isn't one story in one place. It is a network of people, places and events spread across the city.
Taste of Freedom is documenting and connecting these places through a growing digital preservation network making histories that have been forgotten, altered or lost discoverable again.
50+ HISTORIC SITES MAPPED — Documenting places connected to slavery, resistance, freedom-seeking and Black community life.
ONE CONNECTED STORY — Revealing relationships between people, places and events that are often taught separately—or not at all.
ACCESS BEYOND THE TOUR — Extending discovery through digital maps, immersive experiences and place-based storytelling.
If a place disappears, its story doesn't have to disappear with it.
